Leeks are Allium-family vegetables, like onions and garlic, and cause red blood cell damage.
Cooked, raw or in stocks and soups — leeks remain toxic in all forms.
Leeks contain the same organosulfur compounds as onions and garlic, which oxidize hemoglobin to form Heinz bodies. Red blood cells with Heinz bodies are removed by the spleen, leading to hemolytic anemia. Damage is cumulative and delayed.

Approximately 15–30 g of leek per kg of body weight can cause clinical anemia in dogs.
