Cinnamon essential oil — far more concentrated than the spice — can cause low blood sugar and liver damage.
Even small skin contact can cause chemical burns.
Cinnamon oil contains cinnamaldehyde and eugenol in concentrations far higher than the spice. These compounds can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), liver toxicity and GI irritation. The oil is also a known skin sensitizer.
