Peace lilies cause oral irritation from calcium oxalate crystals — but unlike true lilies, they do NOT cause kidney failure.
Despite the name, peace lily is not a 'true lily' (Lilium) and is far less dangerous than Easter lilies or tiger lilies.
Peace lily (Spathiphyllum) contains insoluble calcium oxalate raphides similar to philodendron and dieffenbachia. They cause local oral irritation but do not have the species-specific kidney toxicity of true lilies (Lilium and Hemerocallis).
