Cyclamen tubers contain irritant saponins; ingestion of the tuber can be life-threatening.
Leaves and flowers cause mainly GI upset; the underground tuber is the dangerous part.
Cyclamen contains terpenoid saponins (cyclamin), most concentrated in the tuberous roots. These cause severe gastrointestinal irritation and, in large doses, abnormal heart rhythms, seizures and death.
