Lemon, orange, lime, grapefruit, bergamot and citronella essential oils are all toxic to dogs.
These are far more concentrated than the fruit and pose a real poisoning risk.
Citrus oils contain high concentrations of d-limonene and linalool, which cause GI irritation, CNS depression, and contact dermatitis. They are rapidly absorbed through skin and mucous membranes, and dogs lack the metabolic pathways to detoxify them quickly.
