Milk & Dairy
VORSICHTMost adult dogs are lactose intolerant — milk and dairy commonly cause digestive upset.
Toxizitätsstufe
2/10Warum es gefährlich ist
Dogs lose most of their lactase enzyme after weaning. Cheese, ice cream and milk can therefore cause bloating, gas and diarrhea even though they are not poisonous.
science
Die Wissenschaft
LactoseAdult dogs produce very little lactase, the enzyme needed to break down lactose (the sugar in milk). Undigested lactose ferments in the colon, producing gas and drawing water into the bowel, which causes diarrhea. High-fat dairy products (cheese, cream) can additionally trigger pancreatitis.
