Foxglove can kill dogs within hours through heart arrhythmias.
Every part of the plant — flowers, leaves, stems, seeds and even water from a vase — is dangerously toxic.
Foxglove contains cardiac glycosides (digitoxin, digoxin) that inhibit the Na+/K+-ATPase pump in cardiac muscle. This causes intracellular calcium accumulation, severe bradycardia, AV block and life-threatening arrhythmias. Digoxin from this plant is the source of the heart medication of the same name.
Surse
Less than 1 g of dried leaves per kg body weight can be lethal. Activated charcoal and IV cardiac support are required.
