Raw bread dough expands inside the stomach and ferments into alcohol, a double emergency.
The warm stomach is an ideal proving environment. Rising dough can cause life-threatening gastric dilatation-volvulus (bloat), while yeast fermentation produces ethanol leading to alcohol poisoning.
Yeast metabolizes sugars in the dough into carbon dioxide (causing distension) and ethanol (causing intoxication). Distension can compromise blood flow to abdominal organs and cause shock; ethanol crosses the blood-brain barrier and depresses the central nervous system. Both processes accelerate at body temperature.

Any meaningful ingestion is a veterinary emergency — do not wait for symptoms. Inducing vomiting at home is contraindicated because dough can become lodged in the esophagus.
Contacte de inmediato con su veterinario o con una línea de emergencia de intoxicaciones para animales. No provoque el vómito a menos que se lo indique un veterinario.
